All cuts are made with a precision wetsaw. Tile is set in portland thin-set cement. Finished with portland cement grout. Grout is sealed for stain resistance Why is Chuck's installation process superior? Plywood substrates will expand and contract with differences in humidity. As we all know, tiled areas usually endure a wide swing in humidity thus making the substrate unstable. This movement along with the oils in the wood substrate being released will compromise the bond between the adhesive and the substrate. In contrast, when a cement substrate which is stable under humid conditions is utilize and thin-set portland cement is used to attach the tile, the entire floor essentially becomes one solid slab.
