Webb Mountain
CT. 2008
Our Webb Mountain
backpacking trip was a great success. We started the hike at around 6:00PM
on Friday, April 25th with full packs. We reached the cliffs at around 7:30
PM and set camp. We all had nice relaxing evening hanging around the campfire
and chewing the fat. We slept in on Saturday morning till around 8:00 AM.
After a nice breakfast we hiked down to the public camping area and met up
with Troop 27. After lunch and a bit more relaxing we went on our geocashing
event that we set up for the Troop. Later that evening some of the older
scouts from the Crew came down for a visit and we all led the younger boys
from the Troop in campfire songs and skits. Next morning was just a quick
trail breakfast and the hike home. The weather was perfect and it was a nice
"play it by ear" weekend for the Crew.

Shelton Trails
This 171-acre
addition to the Webb Mountain park system opened in October 2007 with an
extensive interpretive trail system and "outdoor classroom". The parking
area is located on Webb Circle before you get to the older section of Webb
Mtn Park. Scavenger hunt cards are available at Monroe Town Hall and will
be available at the park in season which tie into the interpretive sign system.
Younger scouts can look for items such as quartz boulders or a tree with
three trunks etc.
The Paugussett
Trail is one of the "Blue-Blazed" trails in Connecticut, of which there are
several hundred miles. These trails are designed for more advanced hikers
and may be steep or somewhat difficult to follow in places. Mountain bikes
are generally not allowed. The Connecticut Forest and Parks Association (CFPA)
is a volunteer organization which maintains the Blue Dot trails.
These trails
are often located on private property by consent of the property owner, so
please be kind! |

Webb Mountain
Park (136 acres) and the adjacent Webb Mountain Discovery Zone (171 acres)
offer some great hiking along the Monroe/Shelton border. A network of good
hiking trails criss-cross the parks, including the Paugussett Trail, one
of Connecticut's "Blue Blaze" hiking trails.
Shelton Trails
Association has Adopt-A-Trail programs in place for Scout troops that will
count toward service time. It's a great way to enjoy the park and rack up
service time together. |
